QUALITY AND QUANTITY OF FORGIVNES

Monday Men’s Bible Study

Outline (no Recording)

Why should we treat those who mistreat us with kindness?
And how do we do it?

Matthew 6:9-15 AMP
[9] “Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. [10] ‘Your kingdom come, Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. [11] ‘Give us this day our daily bread. [12] ‘And forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven our debtors [letting go of both the wrong and the resentment]. [13] ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.]’ [14] For if you forgive others their trespasses [their reckless and willful sins], your heavenly Father will also forgive you. [15] But if you do not forgive others [nurturing your hurt and anger with the result that it interferes with your relationship with God], then your Father will not forgive your trespasses.

1. Interferes with our relationship with God/Jesus.
Matthew 5:43-48 AMP
[43] “You have heard that it was said, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR (fellow man) and hate your enemy.’ [44] “But I say to you, love [that is, unselfishly seek the best or higher good for] your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, [45] so that you may [show yourselves to] be the children of your Father who is in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on those who are evil and on those who are good, and makes the rain fall on the righteous [those who are morally upright] and the unrighteous [the unrepentant, those who oppose Him]. [46] For if you love [only] those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do that? [47] And if you greet only your brothers [wishing them God’s blessing and peace], what more [than others] are you doing? Do not even the Gentiles [who do not know the Lord] do that? [48] You, therefore, will be perfect [growing into spiritual maturity both in mind and character, actively integrating godly values into your daily life], as your heavenly Father is perfect.

2. Same quality and quantity of forgiveness that we want God/Jesus to use when forgiving us!

Matthew 6:4 KJV
[4] That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

Matthew 6:6 KJV
[6] But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Matthew 6:18 KJV
[18] That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

Proverbs 27:2 KJV
[2] Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
3. Reward/Blessing
4. Love: John 14:15 KJV
[15] If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Luke 7:36-50 KJV
[36] And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to meat. [37] And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, [38] And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. [39] Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner. [40] And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on. [41] There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. [42] And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? [43] Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. [44] And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. [45] Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. [46] My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. [47] Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. [48] And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven. [49] And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also? [50] And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

Acts 1:1-11 AMP
[1] The first account I made, Theophilus, was [a continuous report] about all the things that Jesus began to do and to teach [2] until the day when He ascended to heaven, after He had by the Holy Spirit given instruction to the apostles (special messengers) whom He had chosen. [3] To these [men] He also showed Himself alive after His suffering [in Gethsemane and on the cross], by [a series of] many infallible proofs and unquestionable demonstrations, appearing to them over a period of forty days and talking to them about the things concerning the kingdom of God. [4] While being together and eating with them, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, “Of which,” He said, “you have heard Me speak. [5] For John baptized with water, but you will be baptized and empowered and united with the Holy Spirit, not long from now.” [6] So when they had come together, they asked Him repeatedly, “Lord, are You at this time reestablishing the kingdom and restoring it to Israel?” [7] He said to them, “It is not for you to know the times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority. [8] But you will receive power and ability when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be My witnesses [to tell people about Me] both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and even to the ends of the earth.” [9] And after He said these things, He was caught up as they looked on, and a cloud took Him up out of their sight. [10] While they were looking intently into the sky as He was going, two men in white clothing suddenly stood beside them, [11] who said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This [same] Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will return in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.”

JESUS is ALIVE!!!
AND will RETURN!!!
