THE BUCK STOPS HERE

On this journey that some people call life, you find that you yourself are either in a season of sowing or a season of reaping. You may be sowing by tithing at your worship center, helping a non – profit organization, or simply reading and studying the Word of God. In Galations 6:7(NLT), the BIBLE reads, “Don’t be mislead….you cannot mock tjhe justice of God”. You will always harvest what you plant. In other words, if you sow good and meaning seeds, you will harvest good and meaningful plants. But if you misuse and squander your seeds, then you will have nothing to harvest. In the Book of Judges, we meet a lady, by the name of Deborah. Deborah is an awesome Prophetess, wife, and leader. Deborah as the Fourth Judge, sent by God to judge the Israelites during the time there were Judges, after the death of Joshua.

Deborah gave instructions to Barak from God to take ten thousand men from Naphtali and Zebulon and go to Mount Tabor. She goes on to tell Barak that God will give him victory over Sisera, the commander of the Jabin’s army(Judges 4:6-4). Barak agreed to go only if Deborah agreed to go with him. Deborah agreed to accompany Barak, but told in Judges 4:9, ” I will go with you. But because of the way  that you are going about this, the honor will not be yours. For the Lord will hand Sisera over to a woman”.

Barak defeated the army of Sisera, leaving no man alive( Judges 4:16). Meanwhile, Sisera escaped to what he thought was refuge came upon Jael’s tent. Jael was the wife of Heber the Kenite. You see, Sisera believed that he had found a safe haven because of the good relations between the Kenites and Jabin the king of Hazor. She offered Sisera a place to rest, gave him some milk and covered him up.  When Sisera became sleepy he asked Jael to guard her tent and to wake him if anyone came near. As he slept, Jael drove a tent peg through his temple and into the ground. As Barak was in pursuit of Sisera, Jael came out to meet Barak and said ” I have the man you are looking for.(Judges 4:22) This confirmed what the Lord had spoken through Ceborah: that a woman will get the honor for killing Sisera. Now before this the Israelites went through twenty years of opression at the hands of Jabin. Before that, eighty years of peace, and after Deborah and Barak they had forty years of peace. They went through over 120 year cycle of doing good and evil in Our Lord’s eyes. We have to get to a point in our Christian walk Where we stand totally  dependent on the word of God.

In the New Testament, 1 john 2:15, our bible teaches us about how not to love this world and the things that it offers, but for when you do, you do not have the love of the father in you. Let’s get to a place in life where hiccups in life’s journey don’t overwhelm us, instead we can go to our Lord for wisdom and understanding. The only way we can do that is to live by faith that Our Lord will supply all our needs. Romans 10:17 says, Faith comes from Hearing, that is hearing the Good News about Christ Jesus.

OUR PAST DOES NOT DEFINE OUR FUTURE!

In Joshua 2:1 we meet a woman whose name is Rahab and she is  referred to as a prostitute or harlot. Now in Matthew 1:5 Rahab is married to Salmon and they have a son named Boaz. Boaz was known as a wealthy landowner.Salmon, the husband of Rahab is the great-great grandfather of King David. This puts Rahab squarely in the direct lineage of Jesus! Some people would ask, why would God not only allow, but personally put a prostitute in the lineage of his son, Jesus. I believe it was to show us, it is not where you started from but where you finish! Ecclesiastes 9:1 talks about how the race is not given to the quickest one nor the battle to the strongest one. God gave us all free will. Rahab, I believe had a choice to give up the spies, but chose fear the Lord. Not in the sense of being scared of God, but having respect for him. In Joshua 2: 10 & 11 Rahab speaks on how God blesses the Israelites and in verse 11 she declared that their God is God! I believe in that moment God released favor over her and her family. In Matthew 24:13 Jesus speaks on how the one that endures to the end will be saved. Make good use of the time while you can. No man knows the hour when Jesus will return for us.
