The Power of One

The power of one. You don’t think there is power in just one person or voice?

Well let’s take a look at what we know.

As Pastor Bob says, look at Jesus, he was one man and he changed the world and is still changing it. I know what you are thinking, yeah but he is the Son of God. How can I compare to that? He had the Almighty working with him. You don’t have that luxury, no you don’t, you have God the Father, Jesus , and the Holy Spirit in front of you guiding you. So you are never alone, you always have the Trinity with you.

OK let’s look at a few others that weren’t blessed with divine, supernatural powers.

David- in the book of 1st Samuel he was strong enough in his faith to stand up before Goliath. Think about that one, an entire army behind and in front of you. You are about sixteen years old and your faith at that time of your life is strong that you say you are going 2fight to the death a giant of a man. His voice counted, he ended up being a king. Did something later that he was not proud of but still became a highly respected figure.

Joseph- in the book of Genesis his brothers dumped him in a well, then sold him of to slavery. His faith led him to be second in command of Egypt and kept the country from starvation. The Pharaoh listened to his counsel and Joseph trusted in God to lead him in the correct path. The faith in God that you tell your brothers, family, You meant it for evil, but God used it for good. His faith was strong.

Noah- we all know the story of Noah and the ark. Russell Crowe even starred in a movie about the story of Noah. But have you ever really thought about the story? To have the faith to do what God wants you to do? Everyone around you thinks you are crazy, building an ark for a rain deluge that “going” to come and cover the world. Can you hear the ridicule, the jeers, the laughing? But yet Noah had the faith to remain hard at work in the task God set before him.

Peter- Another strong man of faith, throughout the gospels and into the book of Acts. He was an ordinary man doing extraordinary things. Think about
what he went though listening to Jesus and taking his word further into the nations. Again one man with 1 voice. One example of his faith that shows he was just like us was in the garden of Gethseneme, Jesus told him to his face, You will deny me. His reply was oh not so. We know what happened. He was a singular voice preaching the gospel before people new what it was.

Paul (Saul)- In the book of Acts he was a very outspoken person against Christianity, and his encounter with Jesus softened his heart and he was transformed into Saul. Who then used his 1 voice to preach about Christ and Christianity.

The list could go on I could name 5, 10, 50 more people in the bible that their one voice against everyone else lead to a stronger faith in God.

But let’s be honest, All those people were still heroes from the BIBLE. Let’s look at a few from after biblical times.

Martin Luther- born in 1483, he is well known for his “The 95 Thesis”. His 1 voice lead him to rethink what roman Catholicism teachings and practices were about. He then wrote the 95 thesis and was excommunicated from the church. He taught that salvation is not earned by good deeds but only received as a free gift from God. His voice challenged the authorities.

Thomas Edison- born in 1847, one man challenged the way we look at everything, especially at night. No more candlelight now there is the light bulb. Can you imagine what his friends were saying when he said, I am going to make this thing that can turn on and off and inside of it is the essence of the candlelight. The idea is that there won’t be a need for fire, but it will be bright. He went on to invent more including the phonograph, motion picture camera and more.

Henry Ford- born 1863, he brought the automobile to the middle class, now more people could afford one, not just the rich. He was also instrumental in utilizing the assembly line for manufacturing the vehicles. Again 1 man 1 voice and tremendous outcome.

Adolf Hitler- born 1889, yes even 1 voice can change the world for evil. He used his voice as dictator and was the center of the Holocaust.

The Wright Brothers- in 1903, these brothers were the American pioneers in aviation. They had a vision and invented something that would fly in the air. No longer was man limited to the ground, Now we could soar with the eagles. I know I cheated with this example it is 2 men with 1 voice, but still you get the message.

When you sit back and are truly honest with yourself, why are you any different? You are one person, you have one voice, so what could you hope to do? A landslide starts with a single pebble, it was a single raindrop that started the flood, one spark starts a fire, and it was a single word that started the universe, (OK it was God’s word, but still). We have to stop thinking about whether or not we are offending people and stand up and be heard. Think about this, I am but a single person, voicing my thoughts on scripture right now. If there is a single thought that I have brought out that sticks with you, it is now 2 voice, or maybe 3 voices, thinking the same way. If you tell a friend or two about it, we are now doubled, if they do the same, now 4, then 8, 16, 32, and on and on before you know it 100’s if not 1000’s of individuals have that same thought or voice. I am not saying it is time to put on the breadboard and tell everyone the end is near. What I am saying is that you as a Christian needs to stand and be accounted for. It is time to stand up for your faith. You have no problem telling everyone about a great or terrible movie, book, meal, or place. Why do you find it hard to talk about Jesus, God, or the Bible? Are you ashamed? Or are you worried about offending someone? They aren’t worried about offending you if they tell you to “shut up”.
So why not stand for what you believe in, Jesus said very plainly in Matthew 10:33 “but who so ever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father, who is in Heaven.” That means you don’t have to blatantly deny Christ, you can deny him by your actions or in actions, your thoughts, or deeds. You are professing to be a Christian, a follower of Christ, but does your life speak otherwise? Do you go along with things you know in your heart to be wrong and not speak up?

Jesus said it plainly with his 1 voice in Matthew 28:18-20 ;

:I have been given complete authority in Heaven and on Earth. 19 Therefore, go
and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the
commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even
to the end of the age.

OK now it is up to you, you are 1 person, you have one voice, are you going to sit on the side
lines and wish the coach would put you in? Or are you going to stand up and use your voice? In Luke 21:14-15 it says, Settle it therefore in your minds not to meditate beforehand how to answer,
for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or

contradict.

God will provide the words for you Are you going to listen to all that God and Jesus has commanded and use the common sense you were given and lead a life that is according to God’s word? Are you going to tell people about God, that’s going out and making disciples. Are you going to vote the way God would want this country run? And if it turns out otherwise, will you pray for our leaders that they see the errors of leading a country away from God instead of to Him? I didn’t utilize a lot of scripture because I really would have to use the ENTIRE bible it is full of single people, with single voice changing a world towards Christianity. If you haven’t read the bible in a while, read it. Or just read the book of Acts and see what transpired bringing the gospel to everyone. The voices cry out about the good news, read what the early Christians went through to give you the faith you now have. Use your voice, proclaim who God is, what Christ has done for you. In Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God, why can’t you? If you do follow what Christ wants you to do and your faith remains strong here is a glimpse into the future 1Corinthians 2:9 But as Scripture says: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him.” You are showing your love for him by proclaiming who he is and what he has done in your life. Use your voice, whisper it, talk it, shout it just get the word out. You can do it, You know it, and God Knows it.
Close in Prayer.
